Dominique has always had a love of painting from an early age and always aspired to being an artist. Winning a primary school competition to design the front cover of the sports day brochure was probably a great starting point.
It was her love of animals and her empathy towards them that drew her close to her chosen subjects. Having been brought up in a house in the country full of animals, subject matter was never an issue. Dominique saw her own personality reflected in those of her dogs in particular, and it was this aspect which she strove to capture, ie slightly barking! This remains her ambition with each and every subject to date, capturing the ‘human’ side of the animal.
After completing an illustration degree at Bristol, Dominique spent a few years in London trying to forge a career, before moving back to her roots in Hampshire. It has been here over the last five years that her career as an artist has gone from strength to strength. Being surrounded by beautiful countryside and a wealth of wildlife, inspiration comes naturally.
