Recent News N0020 - Infinartum to support Living Paintings Infinartum will be supporting the Living Paintings charity during our Winter 2008 Exhbition to be held on Firday 7th November and Saturday 8th November at Sandford Springs Golf Club, Kingsclere.

Living Paintings is a charity based in Kingsclere, who help blind and partially sighted people “feel” visual images. They make special versions of pictures with raised surfaces that come to life when fingers feel them.

Special sound recordings accompany the raised pictures, telling the stories of the pictures and describing the features. In this way, the senses of touch and hearing combine to make up for the missing sense of sight.

Different people have different tastes; for children, they make illustrated story packs featuring characters such as Winnie the Pooh, and the Romans; for adults they present collections of works of art on subjects such as “Animals in Art”, “British Birds”, and “Paintings from the Royal Collection”.

These touch and sound packs are part of an extensive postal library, which is provided free for members. To run this free service, Living Paintings need to raise at least £500,000 a year, more if they want to produce further titles, additional copies of titles and new subjects for their ever-growing membership.
